An online service has been launched that enables passengers entering Japan (including Japanese nationals returning to Japan) to perform all the immigration procedures (including quarantine, immigration and customs declarations) in one go upon entering the country. Passengers entering Japan are subject to strict emergency and precautionary measures. Please understand that it may take some time until you can complete the quarantine procedures and other post-arrival procedures.
Quarantine After Entry
If you are returning to or entering Japan from a country or region that has been imposed with quarantine requirements by the quarantine station, and you have not received 3 doses of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, you will be required to quarantine for the designated period at one of the quarantine station's accommodation facilities.

Given the spread of the new variants of COVID-19 infections overseas, the government's border measures have been further strengthened.
All customers entering Japan, including customers of Japanese nationality, will not be allowed to land in Japan unless they submit a valid certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result. If you cannot confirm a valid certificate during the boarding procedure, we will refuse boarding according to the instructions of the Japanese government.

There are many cases where passengers providing evidence which does not properly specify the type of specimen tested, method of inspection, and/or the time and date of the inspection. There also have been several instances where the lack of required information indicated by medical institutions have led to passengers being denied boarding.

(Common Mistakes)
A nasopharyngeal swab is a valid form of testing.
A pharyngeal swab is not considered a valid form of testing.

Non-Japanese nationals who are permitted to enter Japan due to exceptional circumstances must submit either their original test certificate or a copy thereof to the immigration officer, and are therefore requested to prepare one in advance.

As part of the quarantine procedures against COVID-19, you are required to enter your visitation history and health details on the online questionnaire and to present the QR code generated to the quarantine inspector upon both entering Japan and returning to your country. Please complete required information on the online questionnaire before arrival (i.e., while you are still at home/the airport, inflight, etc.). After completing the questionnaire, you will be issued a QR code and asked to present this to the quarantine inspector upon arrival.
Non-Japanese nationals who stayed in restricted areas within 14 days prior to their arrival in Japan:
After March 1, 2022, for new entry for short-term stays and new entry for long-term stays for commercial and employment purposes, the person in charge of acceptance in Japan will prescribe in the immigrant health confirmation system(ERFS). If you complete the application, you will be able to enter Japan in principle, assuming that there are "special circumstances".

In order to prevent the "Three Cs" (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings) and protect everyone from virus transmission through physical contact in the aisles and other areas of the cabin, we ask passengers at the front of the aircraft to disembark first, followed by those in the middle, and then in the back. We kindly ask that you remain seated and refrain from removing your baggage from the overhead compartments until informed to do otherwise.
Please proceed to a designated specimen collection booth. Spit 1 to 2 ml of saliva into a container.
If you struggle to produce any saliva, etc., you can also collect a specimen by inserting a cotton swab into your nose. (*1)
After you have taken the test, please go to the waiting area inside the airport and wait there until you receive your test result.
It will take around 2 to 3 hours until you receive your test result. (*2)
Please avoid eating or drinking anything 30 minutes before collecting your saliva specimen.
Depending on the situation, you may have to wait longer to receive your result if you have to re-take the test.

Travelers who are not entering Japan and transferring directly to a third country by transit, are not required to submit any documents and undergo inspections in Japan. Nonetheless, travelers are still subject to the travel/entry restrictions and requirements of their final destination.
However, the following cases require entry into Japan. Please be informed that foreign nationals arriving from prohibited countries will not be allowed to enter Japan.

On your arrival date, quarantine procedures and other post-arrival procedures may take some time to complete, and you may have to wait a while to receive the appropriate guidance. In this instance, you may not be able to board your reserved connecting flight if you have one. We kindly request that you leave sufficient leeway when reserving a connecting flight. Passengers will be able to use public transportation only for moving to wait at home. And those who have been vaccinated for the third time from non-designated countries/regions will be able to use public transportation depending on the negative result of the airport quarantine test.
The public health center under whose jurisdiction your address in Japan falls (as written on the online questionnaire you submitted to quarantine upon entering Japan) will contact you by email or phone every day for 7 days after your arrival to confirm your health.

The following passengers who are 12 years of age plus 4 months or older and traveling on a (domestic or international) flight departing from Canada must have proof of vaccination. Masks
OP masks (surgical masks/non-woven fabric masks), KN95/N95 masks or FFP2 masks must be used.
Face shields, mouth shields, masks with valves, handkerchiefs, bandanas, scarfs, Buff masks, and woven masks are not permitted.
Failure to wear a mask may result in a fine.

A member states of the EU-Schengen Agreement
The following restrictions apply when connecting from Japan to a Schengen member country via a German airport.
In principle, passengers are required to use direct flights to final destination.
However, only in case that transit time is requisite minimum, and allowed to enter the final destination country, transit (Durchreise) is permitted by German authority.
For transit, passengers are required to show evidence issued by responsible authorities of final destination country or next transit country, which shows the entry to final destination is allowed. A printing of the government home page is one of the example of evidence.
For passengers who are allowed transit, one of following certification is required to enter Germany for transit.
Negative test certificate (PCR test: Within 48 hours prior to departure of the first flight in the itinerary / Antigen test: Within 48 hours prior to entering Germany)
Vaccinated certification (Required 14days passed after completion of vaccination)
Recovery certification (Required certifying Covid-19 infection within 6 month)
All passengers over 6 years old are required to show at passport controls in Germany.
“Digital entry registration(DEA)”and “self-isolation in Germany”are exempt for transit passengers.
Passengers are admitted to transfer to Countries other than a member country of the Schengen Agreement.
